There’s a common saying that, “iron sharpens iron.” This definitely applies to training and preparing for World and Olympic championships. At the moment, girl’s and women’s wrestling is a growing and developing sport, which is fantastic! However, it also means that there is limited financial support, especially for up-and-coming athletes such as myself.

Critical competitions are held across the United States and in other countries. The costs of flights, train rides, ride-shares, gas, subway fare, food, entry fees, hotels, shoes, singlets, and athletic medical supplies (tape, band aids, warming cream, etc.) rapidly add up.

I have been tremendously lucky to have my supporters, as they have been crucial in helping me afford some of these listed expenses above. It is not without sacrifice, as I have slept in airports to save on hotels, taken red-eye flights with multiple connections to save on airfare, driven with my mom several times (10+ hr) to avoid needing to fly, and walk to practice to save gas. Because I am in High-school and underage, I have to travel with a family member for my safety. This precaution ends up greatly increasing non-covered travel expenses. I do my best to be mindful of my spending because I know that my supporters are generous and expect me to do my very best, not only on the mat, but also as a person.
